MEDICINE HAT

Musicians drawn from disparate continents united to create Medicine Hat, a group presenting country music through a distinctly rock-oriented lens. Occasional raw renditions of longstanding material gain fresh energy and drive from this approach. The band also performs its own songs, covering similar territory while viewing the terrain from angles far removed from those of standard country acts. Singer and guitarist Mark Jackson (b. 1967, Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand) established the group; its lineup at various points has featured Stephen Loveday (guitar), Mark Wright (guitar), UK-born James Whiteman (keyboards, Hammond organ), Lol Dalzeil (bass), and Garry Bowler (drums). Medicine Hat scored late-90s single success with ‘C’mon Here’ and cultivated a loyal audience through touring and early-00s albums. Loveday has additionally written music heard in films and on television.
