Biography
Michael Amante, raised as one of five siblings in an Italian-American household in Syracuse, NY, recognized his desire to sing while still a young child. Early on he appeared in church and Catholic-school choirs, then moved into local rock groups that let his tenor deliver covers of numbers by Kansas, Foreigner, and Journey. Years of subsequent study left that mixture of experiences audible in the light, clear timbre he brings to both operatic parts and leading roles in productions such as West Side Story, Grease, and Jesus Christ Superstar. The same expansive range secured him an assignment performing the national anthem for the Mets throughout their 2000 playoff run and shaped the self-titled debut album Medalist issued in the summer of 2001.
