Emerging in 2006, the noise rock outfit Millions channels the spirit of groups such as the Jesus Lizard and Big Black through a sound defined by grinding aggression and motoric propulsion. Guitarists Corey Lyons and Scott Flaster, the latter formerly of Small Brown Bike, join drummer Patrick O'Shea and bassist Mark Konwinski in steering the band toward a classic noise-rock stance that sets it apart from many peers riding the genre’s new wave, favoring tension and discord over density and volume. This focus on mood rather than sheer tonal force helps Millions secure a distinctive niche within the resurgent style, lending the music a timeless quality that could easily belong to noise rock’s first or second wave. The band issued its debut full-length, Gather Scatter, in 2009 on Seventh Rule, the label founded by Flaster, and returned in 2012 with the follow-up album Failure Tactics.
