Biography
Born in 1996, Tarik Mishlawi spent his early years in Arizona before his family moved to Cascais, Portugal during his teenage period. Music entered his life early; he began drumming at five and later took up guitar. After a period of college studies in the United States, he settled in London and started posting original material under the name Mishlawi on SoundCloud and YouTube in 2014. His initial upload, “Street Jargon Freestyle,” quickly circulated online and attracted wider notice.
Around that time a chance meeting with Portuguese reggae artist Richie Campbell led to a friendship; Campbell soon urged his own label, Bridgetown Records, to sign the emerging rapper. Mishlawi’s hip-hop approach blended smooth flows with dusty, laid-back beats, and the 2016 single “All Night” highlighted this sound through its Latin-inflected Chick Corea sample. The track accumulated millions of streams and views, becoming his clearest early success. Subsequent releases such as “Always on My Mind,” “Boohoo,” and “Limbo” followed in the same vein and were later gathered on a self-titled EP issued in 2018.
