Nervosa

Nervosa came together in 2010 as a fiercely uncompromising extreme metal outfit from Brazil, rapidly establishing itself as a dominant presence both in the female-led heavy metal community and across the global thrash and death metal landscape. Guitarist and vocalist Prika Amaral has remained the only unchanging member through repeated lineup shifts, yet the band has sustained a devoted audience via widely praised albums such as Victim of Yourself in 2014 and Perpetual Chaos in 2021.

The São Paulo-based trio formed by Amaral on guitar and vocals, drummer Fernanda Terra, and bassist-vocalist Fernanda Lira first gained attention in 2012 with a video for the debut single “Masked Betrayer,” an online success that drew the attention of Napalm Records. Following the label signing, the group entered the studio for its debut album with Pitchu Ferraz, who had taken over the drum chair from Terra in 2013. Victim of Yourself arrived in 2014, presenting a fierce, unpolished collection of classic thrash shaped by the influence of Sepultura, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus. The 2016 follow-up Agony delivered similarly aggressive material, and the band promoted it through prominent live appearances with fellow acts Destruction, Grave, Samael, and Artillery.

Before the release of Downfall of Mankind in 2018, Ferraz departed, making room for Luana Dametto’s first recordings with the group; the album was produced by Martin Furia and featured guest contributions from João Gordo of Ratos de Porão, Rodrigo Oliveira of Korzus, and Michael Gilbert of Flotsam and Jetsam. In 2020 Dametto and longtime bassist Fernanda Lira parted ways on amicable terms to launch their own death metal project Crypta. Amaral then recruited vocalist Diva Satanica of Bloodhunter, bassist Mia Wallace of Abbath, and drummer Eleni Nota to prepare Nervosa’s fourth album. Perpetual Chaos surfaced in 2021, unleashing a ferocious blend of modern thrash intensity and old-school death metal. After completing the supporting tour the lineup fractured once more, prompting Amaral to rebuild the roster. The resulting configuration issued the standalone single “Endless Ambition” in 2023, with Amaral handling guitar and lead vocals alongside second guitarist Helena Kotina, bassist Hel Pyre, and drummer Michaela Naydenova.
