Biography
Never Shout Never originated as a solo project led by Missouri-born Christofer Drew, whose material blended emo sensibilities with acoustic singer/songwriter traditions. Drew cultivated an early following through the simple act of uploading his candid, luminous songs to online platforms, where daily streams soon exceeded 15,000 plays. Formalizing the endeavor, he issued his debut recording, the Yippee EP, in 2008. Placement in Hot Topic outlets and an appearance on MTV’s TRL expanded its reach. Months afterward he tracked an eight-song “mini album,” What Is Love?, alongside producer Butch Walker; the set entered the Top 40 after arriving in early 2010. A modestly expanded follow-up, Harmony, surfaced several months later. Seeking a fresh approach, Drew abandoned the solo format and assembled a full band for the atmospheric third album Time Travel, which appeared in 2011. The dynamic and well-received Indigo arrived the next year, with Sunflower following in 2013. Never Shout Never’s seventh studio album, Black Cat, emerged in 2015. Cut in Los Angeles under Dennis Herring (Elvis Costello, Modest Mouse), the record emphasized a more extroverted and expansive ensemble sound.
