Nija Charles entered the industry as an R&B vocalist, producer, and songwriter by penning material for major figures such as SZA and Beyoncé, yet she soon turned her talents toward crafting her own material, drawing on a command of fluid but exploratory beats alongside buoyant pop melodies. Once she had supplied songs to prominent voices across rap, pop, and R&B, she issued several standalone tracks that preceded her first full-length effort, the 2022 release Don't Say I Didn't Warn You.

Born in 1997 in Union, New Jersey, she enrolled at NYU while still a teenager and pursued production studies through the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, often shaping instrumentals inside her dormitory. After forming connections with key industry contacts, she departed the university in 2017 to enter a publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group. In the years that followed, demand for her songwriting and production work surged, leading to collaborations that spanned artists from 21 Savage to Lady Gaga.

Already holding multi-platinum credits, she delivered her initial body of original recordings in January 2022 via the EP-length Don't Say I Didn't Warn You. That March brought both a set of remixes drawn from the same project and her contribution to Capella Grey’s single “Confujawn.”
