Hailing from New York, NYCL Kai fuses trap's confident swagger with skate-punk's irreverent edge to create his distinctive style of hip-hop, evident throughout the self-titled album he issued in 2020.
During his upbringing in the Bronx, Kai acquired bass-playing skills at a young age, drawing motivation from punk and hip-hop encountered through his participation in the city's skate scene. He merges these elements into a potent blend featuring lo-fi beats, intense low-end frequencies, sharp guitar accents, and confrontational vocal delivery, which promptly secured him a place on Atlantic's roster. His first single, "What About You", arrived in 2019, with the full-length NYCL Kai following in the subsequent year.
