Biography
Orixa, a group based in the Bay Area, entered the Latin rock scene of California during the initial years of the 1990s. The ensemble, which performed a mix of Latin ska, hip-hop, funk, and reggae, put down their debut recording—a self-titled effort—during 1996, subsequent to inking a deal with Aztlán Records. Orixa also took part in a pair of rock en Español collections known as Puro Eskanol and Aztlán Alternativo. With their intense shows and socially provocative lyrical content, this quintet rose to prominence among regional acts and earned a nomination for Best Latin Rock Band at the California Music Awards of 1997. The year 2000 saw the release of 2012 e.d. from Orixa.
