Indonesian pop-punk heroes Pee Wee Gaskins came together in Jakarta during 2007. A former metal guitarist who serves as bassist and singer, Dochi Sadega pulled the group together to focus on pop-oriented material he had already started composing. The lineup also included guitarists Sansan and Ayi Mahardhiki along with keyboardist Omo Satiri and drummer Aldy Kumis. Their first release arrived in 2008 as the Stories from Our High School Years EP, which showcased the band’s vibrant, melodic sound. Taking their name from an American serial killer, Pee Wee Gaskins quickly turned into a cult favorite across Indonesia and built a devoted following that calls itself “Party Dorks.” After issuing their debut full-length, The Sophomore, in 2009, the group reached a broader audience through fan support and sharp use of social media. The next record, 2010’s Ad Astra Per Aspera, shifted toward a heavier guitar emphasis while giving synths a reduced presence. Several EPs appeared in subsequent years as the band’s profile continued to rise, leading to a 2015 deal with Universal Music Indonesia. February 2016 finally brought the long-awaited third album, Youth Not Wasted.
