Pell

Pell, an American vocalist and songwriter, weaves soul-tinged hip-hop with ambient trip-hop atmospheres, pulling inspiration from jazz, indie rock, and figures like Kanye West, A Tribe Called Quest, John Legend, the Delfonics, and additional artists. Jared Pellerin, who spent his early years in New Orleans, had to relocate to Mississippi once Hurricane Katrina struck. While finishing high school in that new setting he took up beatmaking, then sharpened his singing and rapping skills to recount his own experiences. His debut album, Floating While Dreaming, appeared in 2014 and prompted comparisons to Chance the Rapper, Kid Cudi, and Childish Gambino. The Limbo EP followed in 2015 under the production of Dave Sitek. Two years after that he issued the Girasoul EP, which included guest appearances by Saba on “throwback” and Vérité on “golden.”
