Biography
Based in Chicago, Phil Tarver serves as both a contemporary gospel musician and a pastor. Before stepping out on his own, he spent multiple years performing with Michael Houston & Ministre and contributed to recordings by Shekinah Glory Ministry as well as Walt Whitman & the Soul Children of Chicago. His first solo project, Draw Nearer, arrived on Kingdom Records in 2007; the live worship LP climbed to number 14 on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart and yielded the Top 20 gospel single "Better Than That." Kingdom Records released his follow-up studio album, Be Pleased, the next year. With Place of Worship in 2010 Tarver advanced to number four on the Hot Gospel Albums chart, issuing the project in both audio and video editions. The song "God Is Able" once more landed him inside the gospel songs Top 20. His fourth full-length effort, Sweet Spirit, appeared in 2012. Balancing continued performances with his pastoral role, he was affiliated with Illinois' United Faith Center Ministries International at the time of his 2017 concert in Liberia.
