Col Campsie supplied vocals and guitar while George McFarlane handled synthesizers, bass and guitar in this UK studio duo. Besides recording their own tracks they also penned material for Chaka Khan and served as producers for Haywoode, Blue Zoo and Second Image. The Quick arrived on the scene in 1980 and quickly earned club loyalty through a series of singles crafted expressly for the dancefloor. Only “Rhythm Of The Jungle” reached the singles chart, landing one spot shy of the UK Top 40 in May 1982. That modest breakthrough prompted an album that gathered every prior single alongside selected b-sides, yet the collection made little impact. Club traction continued to build in the USA through 1983, but the group’s already shrinking UK audience meant any later releases vanished without notice. The pair resurfaced in 1988 under the name Giant Steps, now joined by Gardner Cole on keyboards, Edie Lehmann on backgrounds, Bruce Gaitsch on guitar and David Boruff on saxophone. Their first album and the single “Another Lover” both reached the US Top 20. (NB: Not to be confused with the 70s USA band of the same name).
