Liverpool-based alternative/indie sextet Red Rum Club specialize in catchy material laced with western-inspired undertones.

The six musicians had each performed in different groups prior to uniting in 2016, when Fran Doran (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Williams (guitar, backing vocals), Michael McDermott (guitar, backing vocals), Simon Hepworth (bass), Neil Lawson (drums), and Joe Corby (trumpet) came together. Upon stepping into their first rehearsal space, several members were still strangers to one another, yet an instant musical rapport formed, strengthened further by shared pursuits such as weekly boxing sessions. Their opening single, “Alone Together,” surfaced a few months afterward, yet three full years passed before the band completed and issued its debut album, Matador, through Modern Sky in 2019. The follow-up full-length, The Hollow of Humdrum, reached listeners the next October and broadened the sonic range supporting the group’s retro-centric approach. The 2021 arrival of How to Steal the World solidified the sextet’s standing as creators of unadulterated pop moments reminiscent of Squeeze and the Zutons.
