Biography
River Tiber, a producer from Canada, began his professional journey by composing tracks for hip-hop performers, an experience that propelled his individual explorations into richly layered alternative R&B soundscapes reminiscent of Kaytranada, BadBadNotGood, Boots, and Knxwledge. After teaming up with figures such as Ghostface Killah, Travi$ Scott, and Jazz Cartier, his inaugural long-player Indigo appeared in 2016. His next album, Dreaming Eyes, emerged in 2022.
Tommy Paxton-Beesley entered the world in 1991 in Toronto, Canada, where he honed classical cello technique during childhood before adding drums, trombone, and guitar to his instrumental command. Beyond art school, non-classical touchstones including Jimi Hendrix, D'Angelo, and Kanye West shaped his outlook. Upon completing studies at Boston's Berklee School of Music, the singer-producer-musician headed back to Toronto. While supplying beats to Travi$ Scott, Ghostface Killah, and Jazz Cartier, his composition "No Talk" was interpolated by Drake for "No Tellin'" on the fellow Torontonian's 2015 mixtape If You're Reading This It's Too Late. The Star Falls, his debut EP, surfaced in 2013. That downtempo set preceded the single "Prophets," a jittery cut that spotlighted his affinity for Radiohead; Paxton-Beesley also counts Thom Yorke alongside Jeff Buckley among his foremost vocal influences. The follow-up EP When the Time Is Right arrived in 2015. Alongside the single "Illusions," which featured Pusha T and Kaytranada, Paxton-Beesley issued his first full-length Indigo in 2016. Continuing partnerships with fellow Toronto artists, he recruited soulful bluesman Daniel Caesar and singer Tess Parks for the project. The album contained "Acid Test," which earned a shortlist nomination for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Additional singles arrived, among them 2019's "Taurus" and 2021's "Sent from Above." Both tracks featured on River Tiber's second album Dreaming Eyes, released in 2022, where he leaned further into a psychedelic style steeped in jazz and R&B. The set also housed the single "Hypnotized," which Kendrick Lamar sampled for his 2022 track "Savior."
