New Zealand electronic duo SACHI first surfaced in the early 2010s, crafting breezy future bass rooted in the styles of Flume and Ryan Hemsworth. Their affection for ’90s house and 2000s trap filtered through the initial releases Your EP (2014) and Lunch with Bianca (2016).

Auckland natives Nick Chrisp and Will Thomas crossed paths in primary school, spending those years in indie punk groups before gravitating toward hip-hop and electronic sounds during early adolescence. After forming SACHI, the pair cut initial demos and forwarded them to Skrillex, Baauer, and Steve Aoki. A pivotal encounter with Diplo ultimately opened the door: the duo lingered outside a restaurant until the producer appeared, then flung a USB drive of material through an open car window. Several months afterward, Diplo aired one of the tracks on his BBC radio program.

Exposure followed swiftly. Your EP surfaced in 2014, and Lunch with Bianca arrived two years later, featuring the collaboration “South Central” alongside Duckwrth. A pair of 2017 singles emerged next—“Lowkey” with Chicago MC Mick Jenkins and “Shelter” with vocalist NIKA—before “Hollywood Angel” with E^ST closed out the following year.
