With roots in a difficult Los Angeles background, rapper and singer Saint Bodhi transforms those experiences into sharp, emotionally charged verses delivered over smooth, vintage-tinged productions.

Raised in South Central L.A. as the child of a violent gang member, she navigated a perilous childhood that included dealing drugs and suffering a stabbing from a rival wielding a letter opener. Music offered an outlet, shaped by the classic soul stylings of Nina Simone and Eartha Kitt alongside influences from alternative rock and gothic metal. She began with poetry before moving into songwriting, which opened doors to credits for Beyoncé, A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith, and Erykah Badu. Those opportunities took her to Atlanta and New York, where she absorbed regional sounds and folded them into her developing style.

By the late 2010s she stepped forward as a solo act, choosing the name Saint Bodhi after a deceitful former partner and the tree associated with the Buddha’s enlightenment. A short bidding war ended with her signing to Def Jam. During her initial studio session she connected with producer J. Lbs, another South Central native, and the two formed an immediate rapport that led him to handle the bulk of her early recordings. Her debut single “Flower Child,” released in 2019, offered an unflinching reflection on her early years atop a smooth, old-school beat. Subsequent releases “Blessed,” “Gold Revolver,” and “Bad Mood” joined it on her first album, Mad World, which arrived in 2020.
