St. Louis-born rapper Sexyy Red approaches her explicitly sexual material with playful wit and an easygoing attitude. She entered the scene in the 2010s and gained widespread notice after her January 2023 track “Pound Town,” a Tay Keith beat that began as an in-studio freestyle, took off on TikTok and drew endorsements from multiple artists and public figures. A May remix titled “Pound Town 2,” featuring Nicki Minaj, landed on her second mixtape Hood Hottest Princess, which earned favorable coverage alongside some debate upon its June arrival and reached the upper half of the Billboard 200 the following month. Additional placements include a guest spot alongside SZA on Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy,” which peaked at number 11 on the Hot 100, while her own “Get It Sexyy” single surfaced in March 2024. That May she issued her third project, In Sexyy We Trust, containing contributions from Drake, Lil Baby, and others, and it too registered on Billboard’s album chart.

Janae Wherry, shaped by early-2000s Southern rap—especially Gucci Mane and Three 6 Mafia—first picked up the microphone to craft a diss record aimed at a former partner who had been unfaithful. She began issuing material under the Sexyy Red name in 2018; her debut mixtape Ghetto Superstar arrived in 2021. The 2022 single “Born by the River,” which features Sukihana and nods to Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” generated modest interest. She also released the track “Female Gucci Mane” and appeared on songs with NLE Choppa, Gloss Up, and Kaliii before “Pound Town” became the decisive breakout.
