Biography
Based in Los Angeles, the rock outfit Sons of Silver revolves around vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Peter Argyropoulos, who performs under the alias Pete RG. Their material draws from hard rock and alternative rock foundations, anchored by sharp guitar work, while the melodies carry a pop sensibility and the lyrics frequently tackle pointed political subjects with raw intensity. The group made a strong impression on the Active Rock charts through two favorably received EPs, Doomsday Noises in 2020 and Ordinary Sex Appeal in 2022, before expanding their defiant outlook and muscular approach on the debut full-length album Runaway Emotions, issued in 2024.
Argyropoulos assembled Sons of Silver in 2019, building on earlier collaborations with the same musicians under the Pete RG moniker. Before that project he had fronted the Americana group Last December. Under the Pete RG name he issued the 2015 EPs Lightning Strikes and Reaching for the Moon, followed by the 2016 album Tender Souls, which shifted Last December’s roots-rock base toward a more pronounced pop-rock emphasis. Extended touring gradually intensified the band’s edge and reduced its country leanings, prompting the musicians—Argyropoulos on lead vocals and guitar, Kevin Haaland, formerly of Skillet, on lead guitar, Brina Kabler on keyboards and vocals, Adam Kury, ex-Candlebox, on bass, and Marc Slutsky on drums—to adopt the Sons of Silver identity and continue performing under the revised title.
Their first release, “Never Enough,” appeared in April 2019, with “Down” arriving two months afterward. In May 2020 they unveiled the pandemic-era single “Quarantined in California,” tracked during the height of the COVID-19 crisis. The five-track EP Doomsday Noises followed in June 2020 and incorporated previously issued songs such as “Read ’Em Their Rights,” “World on Fire,” and the title cut. The second EP, Ordinary Sex Appeal, surfaced in 2022 and was fronted by the propulsive single “Whose Gonna Stop Us.” Early 2024 brought the advance track “Tell Me This,” which introduced the confident first album Runaway Emotions released later that year.
