Sophie Simmons entered the public eye at an early age yet pursued multiple professional paths before committing to music in the manner of her father. Born July 7, 1992, in Los Angeles, California, she is the daughter of Shannon Tweed, an actress and model, and the Kiss bassist renowned for his blood-spitting and fire-breathing stage persona. Exposure arrived during her early teens through the reality series Gene Simmons Family Jewels, which followed the daily lives of her parents, her brother Nick Simmons, and herself from August 2006 until July 2012. At age four she composed the song “I Love to Jump Rope,” and by fourteen she approached songwriting with greater seriousness, making periodic trips to Nashville to collaborate with Music City writers. Upon entering Pomona College she chose a computer science major, motivated by a desire to sidestep direct comparisons with her father and by uncertainty about her vocal abilities. Modeling and fashion design occupied portions of her time, alongside culinary studies aimed at becoming a pastry chef and her support for the children’s shelter Sophie's Place. Selected as a contestant for the 2012 season of The X Factor, she was eliminated during the program’s boot camp phase. Subsequent years were devoted to refining her vocal skills, leading to a 2015 recording debut on electronic artist Rebel’s cover of the Sixpence None the Richer hit “Kiss Me.” In 2017 her voice appeared on “Home” by Yellow Claw, “Dangerous” by the Galaxy, and “Live at Night” by Different Heaven. Her first solo release arrived in 2018 with the self-written track “Black Mirror,” drawn from the British television series of identical title.
