An alt-pop singer and songwriter, Spencer Barnett first surfaced in 2015 through performances of cover material, then followed with the romantic single “Whatever” in 2017. His artfully hooky sound, built around synthesizers and guitars, received further exposure on the EPs Reckless in 2019, Welcome to My Mind in 2020, and Jigsaw in 2024.

Born in New York in 2002, Barnett spent his childhood between Manhattan and the San Francisco Bay Area as the son of Shaklee Corporation CEO Roger Barnett and former Manhattan district attorney Sloan Barnett. Drawn to music early, he started composing original songs in his early teens, citing influences that included Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, and others. During that time he connected with family friend Stephan Jenkins, the Third Eye Blind singer, who mentored him and collaborated on his developing work. Jenkins helmed an early covers EP and invited Barnett to join him onstage at multiple concerts.

While continuing his education, Barnett maintained a parallel schedule of recording and live performances over the ensuing years. The 2017 release “Whatever” was joined by “Cherry Lips,” after which he issued his debut EP, Reckless, in 2019, anchored by its emotive title track and the single “17.” Two additional EPs appeared in 2020, I’m Fine and Welcome to My Mind, each broadening his sonic range with new wave synth textures alongside ’90s alt-rock guitar accents. In October 2024 he released a fourth EP, Jigsaw, spotlighting the tracks “Chocolate Pretzel” and “Lost Boy.”
