Biography
The metal band the Autumn Offering originated in Daytona Beach in 1999, emerging as a counterpoint to the pop-punk sounds then saturating radio. At the time of formation, Sean Robbins on bass, Dennis Miller handling vocals, Tommy Church on guitar, Matt Johnson also on guitar, and Nick Gelyon at the drums were all still attending high school, yet the group channeled its energy into forging a raw, blended sound that merged genuine heavy metal with melodic rock & roll. Regional touring by 2003 had already cultivated a strong local audience, prompting the quintet to expand its reach across the United States. After independently arranging multiple national tours, the Florida-based ensemble drew the attention of Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, resulting in a December 2003 signing to Stillborn Records. The outfit's first full-length release, Revelations of the Unsung, surfaced in 2004. Additional road work alongside God Forbid, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, and Slayer honed the live presentation, after which the Autumn Offering entered the Victory Records roster in September 2005. Victory delivered an enhanced reissue of the debut album in early 2006, while the second studio album, Embrace the Gutter, arrived that May. Founding vocalist Dennis Miller departed amicably in March 2007, leaving the remaining members without a singer. Following a short withdrawal from public view, the band resurfaced later that year with drummer Allen Royal and former Hell Within vocalist Matt McChesney on board, plus a third studio album titled Fear Will Cast No Shadow. Bassist Mike Poggione and drummer Brian Sculley joined the lineup for the next record, 2009's Requiem.
