Biography
Hailing from Brisbane, the five-piece Australian outfit known as The Brave fuses post-hardcore and metalcore in equal measure. Their material pairs weighty riffs with memorable melodies to fulfill the group's guiding principle of sparking both intellectual reflection and visceral feeling through sonic force. Across one EP, a pair of standalone tracks, and two full-length releases—including the 2016 breakthrough BBC placement Epoch—the act has risen among Australia's more visible rock outfits while cultivating dedicated but smaller audiences in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The group came together in Brisbane in 2013 amid the local metalcore surge, when vocalist Nathan Toussaint and founding drummer Luke began recruiting from nearby Brisbane acts. Their search yielded guitarists Kurt Thomson and Denham Lee along with bassist Daniel Neucom. Following roughly twelve months of intensive rehearsal and composition, the members self-funded their first EP, Endless, then circled the nation before inking a deal with the Warner Music-affiliated independent imprint UNFD. At that juncture Luke departed, with Brent Thomson stepping in behind the kit.
The Brave unveiled their widely praised debut album Epoch in 2016, propelled by the singles "Searchlight," "Endless," and "Break Free." Regular airplay on BBC Radio One followed, allowing the band to graduate to bigger Australian stages. Whereas the initial EP emphasized abrasive and explosive textures, Epoch adopted a more layered and intentionally radio-friendly approach without diluting the group's force; instead, that power supported hooks and grooves that highlighted Toussaint's expressive vocal delivery. The 2017 standalone single "Ethereal" revealed an additional progressive dimension in their writing.
During winter 2018 the advance track "Technicolor" arrived with a music video that illustrated the band's growing command of dynamic shifts and intricate arrangements. In April the sophomore album Aura appeared on UNFD and Rise Records, succeeded by the single "Ethereal." Both projects registered in the upper tier of streaming metal album charts.
