New Mexico's the Echoing Green formed as a mercurial electronic pop duo whose output centers on hook-driven, emotionally charged industrial pop that ignites as fiercely as it lingers in shadow. Emerging during the 1990s, the pair traversed an expansive sonic terrain that ranged from brooding, goth-tinged synth pop through gospel-tinged new wave and techno. Over subsequent decades their hybrid approach continued to evolve, folding in indie pop, electro-grunge, and industrial rock textures.

Joey Belville established the project in Albuquerque in 1992, later joined by Chrissy Jeter; echoes of their formative influences—Depeche Mode and New Order—surface clearly on the 1994 release Defend Your Joy and the 1997 album Hope Springs Eternal. Throughout the 2000s the Echoing Green sustained their refinement of earworm hooks and dancefloor-ready beats across increasingly intricate works such as Music from the Ocean Picture (2001), The Winter of Our Discontent (2003), and Songs of Innocence & Experience: Hope and Science (2006). In 2020 the duo unveiled the career-spanning Violent Whispers: Songs & Secrets from the Echoing Green, presenting remastered tracks drawn from 2002 to 2018. Three years afterward they issued the stand-alone single "Kisses 2 Chaos."
