Fred Giannelli, an experimental producer operating out of Boston, first collaborated with the acid-house edition of Psychic TV during the mid- to late 1980s before issuing an array of stylistically varied tracks across multiple imprints. Active in music from the late 1970s onward, he spent several years alongside Genesis P. Orridge and the Psychic TV collective, contributing to the 1990 album Towards the Infinite Beat and subsequently securing a contract with Wax Trax! that yielded the 1992 full-length Fred. He next established the Telepathic Recordings imprint to pursue left-field projects built around both factory-built and custom-modified electronic gear, after which he withdrew from view for several years before surfacing again with the atmospheric Telepathic Romance LP on the kindred Finnish outlet Sähkö. Seeking to reconnect with club-oriented material, he joined Richie Hawtin’s Plus-8 roster under the Kooky Scientist alias and delivered the acid-focused Unpopular Science in early 1997.
