Biography
Hailing from the United Kingdom, the production partnership of Ricky Simmonds, born in London, England, and Stephen Jones, likewise born in London, England, has delivered multiple praised and commercially effective singles in house and trance, plus an extensive catalog of remixes. The pair also issues material under additional aliases such as Lustral, Chakra and Ascension, with output appearing across ten distinct imprints that include Jackpot, Hooj Choons and Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Records. Operating as the Space Brothers, they are currently under contract with Manifesto Records. Their 1997 single “Shine” became a staple in clubland thanks to endorsements from prominent selectors including Oakenfold and Judge Jules. Working as Lustral, the ambient drum ‘n’ bass cut “Every Time” benefited from a strong Nalin And Kane remix that facilitated its transition onto house floors and onto numerous club compilations such as Renaissance’s Worldwide - London. The subsequent Manifesto release “Forgiven” achieved solid results yet failed to match the acclaim earned by “Shine.” Two further singles appeared in 1999—“Legacy” and “Heaven Will Come”—each accompanied by remixes from trance specialist Matt Darey and Lange. In September 1999 the duo issued its debut album Shine, which contained an extra disc of dance remixes presented as a continuous mix by Oakenfold. Their established track record and musical approach place the Space Brothers among the leading exponents of melodic, approachable trance during the closing years of the 1990s.
