Those Damn Crows, a five-piece outfit from Wales, channel the raw energy of 1970s and 1980s hard rock through their thunderous, hook-driven sound, a style first captured on the 2016 debut Murder and the Motive.

Formed in 2015 within Bridgend in southern Wales—a locale famed for exporting major rock acts such as Bullet for My Valentine and Funeral for a Friend—the group coalesced when vocalist Shane Greenhall, raised by a singer-songwriter father and already seasoned through childhood performances and later session work as a backing singer, accepted an invitation from former schoolmate Ronnie Huxford. The lineup was completed by guitarists David Winchurch and Ian “Shiner” Thomas, bassist Lloyd Wood, and Huxford behind the kit. They adopted their name from the birds that once raided Huxford’s father’s garden. Their introductory single, “Fear of the Broken,” earned early exposure via a premiere on Kerrang!’s website. Scarcely any live shows under their belt, the band nonetheless secured studio time at the historic Rockfield Studios and used it to lay down Murder and the Motive, which they issued independently in 2016. From that point they maintained a relentless touring schedule, logging festival slots across the United Kingdom at events including Camden Rocks, Steelhouse, Giants of Rock, and Ramblin’ Man. Their muscular, arena-ready hard rock, elevated by Greenhall’s expressive vocals, evoked classic ’70s and ’80s forebears while retaining a contemporary edge free of overt nostalgia. The approach caught the ear of Earache Records, a leading independent rock and metal imprint, which signed the band in 2018 and issued an updated edition of the debut album, preceded by the singles “Blink of an Eye” and “Rock ’n’ Roll Ain’t Dead.” Earache next oversaw the 2020 release Point of No Return, recruiting producers Colin Richardson (Bullet for My Valentine, Slipknot) and Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth) for the sessions. An expanded version of that album surfaced in 2021, while 2022 brought an extensive U.K. headline run highlighted by a slot at Download. Matching the chart trajectory of Point of No Return, the follow-up Inhale/Exhale climbed into the upper tier of the U.K. album chart upon its arrival in 2023.
