Biography
Formed in 1986, the Latin pop/rock foursome Tranzas from Ecuador operated under the direction of singer/songwriter and guitarist Douglas Bastidas, who steered their live debut at the Rock Total festival in 1987. March 1988 saw the group enter the studio to record its debut album, Sueño Astral. Tranzas captured first place the next year in an MTV-sponsored rock contest. Original drummer Jorge Ponce exited the lineup in 1990, and Alfonso Velez soon filled the position. The release of Ciertas Teorias propelled the band forward, securing both the Best Rock Band and Most Popular Group awards in 1995. Televisión Satelital issued 1996’s Parte De Ti, after which the group signed with BMG/Ariola to produce an international edition of the same album. Ray Sánchez produced Tranzas’ Por Siempre in Miami in 1998.
