Argentine singer and songwriter Miguel Mateos first entered the local music scene by fronting the band Cristal. In 1979 he joined forces with his brother Alejandro Mateos and musician Jorge Infusino to launch the group Zas. February 1981 found the ensemble opening for British rock legends Queen during a live appearance. The self-titled debut album surfaced in 1982, with Huevos following the next year. By then bassist Raúl Chevalier and guitarist Eduardo Sanz had joined the lineup. After Tengo Que Parar appeared in 1984, Miguel Mateos y Zas reached the local charts with the song “Tira Para Arriba.” A live recording captured soon afterward at Buenos Aires’ Coliseo Theater later emerged as Rockas Vivas. The album’s success enabled Miguel Mateos to stage four acclaimed concerts at Buenos Aires’ Luna Park, a leading local venue. The subsequent year the band performed in the U.S. with guitarist Carlos García and bass player Cachorro López, resulting in Solos en America, a Latin rock masterpiece. During the 1990s Miguel Mateos chose to relocate to Miami, where he completed four solo albums. Keyboardist Mario Maselli and bassist Ariel Pozzo entered the new band’s lineup in 1998 for the recording of Bar Imperio.
