Hailing from mid-1960s Minneapolis, the garage outfit the Victors stood out chiefly because its lineup included Jim Kane on bass and Denny Waite on vocals, both of whom later became members of the Litter. Warren Kendrick, a close associate of Kane, captured five cover songs with the group that stayed unreleased for decades before surfacing on the 1993 CD The Scotty Story, a collection of thirty Kendrick-produced sides drawn from multiple acts. The performances consisted of solid British Invasion material originally done by Them and the Yardbirds together with a pair of soul numbers, yet they hold value today solely as early markers in the Litter narrative. During 1966 Kane and Waite joined a pair of musicians from the local band the Tabs to establish the Litter, which achieved wider recognition through more distinctive work while retaining Kendrick as producer.
