JAWS emerged in 2012 as a dream pop and indie rock trio based in Birmingham, England, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Connor Schofield, guitarist Alex Hudson, and drummer Eddy Geach. Their atmospheric, ethereal tracks, heavy with reverb, explore themes of self-identity, love, and introspection across projects including the 2014 album Be Slowly and its 2016 follow-up Simplicity. Schofield initiated the project by uploading a self-produced demo that drew enough attention for him to recruit collaborators while still in college, eventually teaming with Hudson and Geach to expand the material. The group soon entered Birmingham’s local club circuit, aligning themselves with the B-Town movement centered in the city’s Digbeth district. Over the ensuing years they issued occasional singles such as “Toucan Surf” in 2012, “Milkshake” in 2013, and “Think Too Much, Feel Too Little” in 2014 before entering the studio to complete their debut full-length. Rattlepop issued Be Slowly that September, after which the band toured extensively across the UK into early 2015. Spring brought the standalone single “Bad Company,” and later that year they began shaping their second album. Simplicity appeared in November 2016, prompting another round of live dates that included the trio’s first shows in the United States. At the close of 2017 they resumed studio work, devoting most of 2018 to new compositions that resulted in the April 2019 release of their third album, The Ceiling.
