Characterizing their approach as "'50s mutant pop," Trudy and the Romance blend jump blues, doo wop, and early rock & roll with the drive of 21st century garage punk. Fronting the group is singer and guitarist Oliver Taylor, whose charismatic delivery rides a rickety rasp. The band first appeared with the EP Junkyard Jazz in 2017.

Oliver Taylor formed the outfit in Liverpool, England, during 2014, recruiting bassist Lewis Rollinson and drummer Brad Mullins. After operating briefly under the name Trudy, the trio rebranded and began issuing standalone tracks, starting with "All My Love" in May 2015. Spring King's Tarek Musa produced that single, which presented the group's loose yet contemporary spin on vintage rock guitar and harmony vocals. The double A-side singles "Wild" and "He Sings" signaled their 2016 transition to B3SCI Records. Additional recordings followed, among them covers of Elvis Presley's "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and "Baby Mine" from Disney's Dumbo.

Junkyard Jazz, Trudy and the Romance's debut EP of entirely original material, surfaced in late 2017. Their first full-length release, Sandman, came out on B3SCI in mid-2019.
