Under the Yot Club moniker, Ryan Kaiser crafts hazed-over bedroom pop that draws from chillwave’s atmospheric lushness while incorporating the sharp edges of early-2000s indie rock. The project gained initial traction through the 2019 release “YKWIM?,” then pushed further into fresh territory via the 2022 album Off the Grid and the 2023 EP Amateur Observer.

Kaiser began creating music in his youth and first posted material online around 2014 under the Amateur Observer name. While enrolled at college in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he switched the project title to Yot Club in 2019 and issued the debut single “Jaded.” He handled every instrument, recording and producing the track in his bedroom with a lo-fi approach reminiscent of indie surf and chillwave acts, yet laced with pop hooks that recalled the crisp appeal of Phoenix and the Strokes. January 2019 brought the first EP, Aquarium, followed by the March single “Japan” and the May release of a second EP, Bipolar. The Bipolar cut “YKWIM?” gained rapid traction, racking up tens of millions of streams and drawing major-label interest. Amid the resulting attention, Kaiser moved to Nashville and maintained a steady pace of new work.

The funk-inflected Nature Machine EP appeared in 2020, after which he delivered his first full-length, Off the Grid, in 2022. That album broadened Yot Club’s palette with touches of R&B, chamber pop, and the breezy feel of West Coast folk-rock. Alongside the 2023 Amateur Observer EP, Kaiser issued collaborative singles with Jordana and Spill Tab.
