Young and in the Way fuse the grinding weight of crust punk with the icy fury of black metal, yielding a viscous yet volatile sonic assault. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, the quartet—Kable Lyall on vocals, Rick Contes on guitar, Chris Nolen on bass, and Randy Baucom on drums—channels its collective drive into a sound marked by unrelenting bleakness and force, intent on stretching the boundaries of sheer volume and ferocity. Their blackened crust approach first appeared on the 2009 EP Newborn; two further short-form releases, Amen and Cloven Hoof, arrived the following year. The group joined A389 Recordings in 2011 and issued its debut full-length, I Am Not What I Am, that same year, with the EP V. Eternal Depression emerging later. In 2013 the band aligned with Deathwish Inc., the label established by Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon, before unveiling its sophomore album, When Life Comes to Death, midway through 2014.
