Hailing from Philadelphia, Young Statues fuse emo and indie rock into a shifting style shaped by the work of Ryan Adams, Band of Horses, Fleetwood Mac, and R.E.M. Once an earlier group ended, New Jersey-bred guitarist/vocalist Carmen Cirignano gathered associates from Georgia and Florida to lay down several songs that later appeared on the self-titled debut. Young Statues surfaced in 2011 via Run for Cover Records, with Tom Ryan on bass, Daniel Bogan on drums, and Steve Poponi on guitar completing the original roster. After Poponi exited, Matt Weber stepped in for the follow-up Covers EP in 2012, which presented the band’s renditions of songs originally by Billy Bragg, Magnetic Fields, New Order, and Ryan Adams. The following year brought Age Isn't Ours, containing a cover of Nirvana’s “About a Girl.” Their proper second full-length, The Flatlands Are Your Friend, reached listeners in 2014. After a lengthy break, the group resurfaced in early 2018 with the harmonica-infused single “Somebody Else,” drawn from the Amarillo EP.
