Biography
South Korean singer YUJU launched her solo career in 2022 after six years as a central figure in the K-Pop act GFriend, releasing the mini-album REC. as her first project.
During her teens the vocalist entered numerous talent competitions, which led to her joining the six-member girl group GFriend upon its formation in 2015. The ensemble built momentum through several mini-albums issued in 2015 and 2016, then delivered its debut full-length effort, the number-three-charting LOL, in July 2016. Across the remainder of the 2010s and into the early 2020s, GFriend produced four studio albums and ten mini-albums, four of which—The Awakening (2017), Time for the Moon Night (2018), Fever Season (2019), and Labyrinth (2020)—reached the top of the Gaon charts. While still with the group, YUJU tested solo waters by releasing tracks that included the 2016 single “Cherish,” which peaked at number 31. Following the expiration of the band’s six-year contract in May 2021, GFriend disbanded. YUJU signed with Konnect the following September and began working as an independent artist; her introductory mini-album, REC., appeared in January 2022 and entered the Gaon charts at number 15.
