Zach Hood crafts music around fragile, quivering emotions, binding them to a supple pop style that draws on melodic hooks, jittery R&B, and sincere folk strains, yielding a youthful tone tempered by a maturity that recalls Ed Sheeran. Those traits surfaced clearly in “Flashbacks,” an autobiographical reflection on his childhood that reached listeners after its early 2021 release. Within months he signed with Arista; over the following years he expanded his following through singles such as “Never Thought a Heart Could Break Itself” and “When She Was Mine” from the 2022 Blossom EP. The dramatic 2024 single “Weatherman” led into his first full-length album, Whispering Pines, issued late that year.

A native of Daphne, Alabama, Zach Hood developed an early fascination with music. He taught himself piano using YouTube videos, began performing cover songs in middle school, and later shared a cappella versions on Instagram before shifting to TikTok during high school.

Hood cut his first professional material in 2020. That June he released a cover of Alexander 23’s “IDK You Yet,” yet by September he had recorded the original “Flashbacks.” Issued in January 2021, the song recounted the pain of his father’s departure when Hood was eight. Its lighter successor, “Isabelle,” grew his online audience enough to secure deals with Arista and William Morris Endeavor by mid-2021; he relocated to Los Angeles shortly afterward. “Pink Ferrari” became the first single released under the Arista agreement, followed by “Main Character” and “Just Kids” before the year ended.

In January 2022 Hood issued “I Miss My Friends,” a track expressing longing for the companions he had left in Alabama. Further singles such as “Never Knew a Heart Could Break Itself” and “Lonely Isn’t the Word for This” appeared throughout the year, leading to the November release of his debut EP, Blossom. He continued exploring his emotional history on 2023 songs like “30” and “Neon Skies” while preparing a longer project. The intense 2024 standout “Weatherman” anchored Hood’s debut album, released later that year. Named after the apartment complex where he came of age after his parents’ divorce, Whispering Pines is a heartfelt ten-song set featuring guest appearances from ROSIE and Sasha Alex Sloan.
