Biography
Emerging from Marlborough, Massachusetts, the death metal outfit Abnormality unleashes a ferocious blend of technically intricate and rhythmically dense extreme metal, drawing clear parallels to Suffocation, Immolation, and Hate Eternal.
The group took shape in 2005 once vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy stepped in for a searing guest performance of Sepultura’s “Desperate Cry” with the band Teratism. Drummer Jay and lead guitarist/vocalist Michael of Teratism were struck enough by her presence to launch an immediate side project built around her voice. That project quickly grew into a full five-piece lineup and soon demanded everyone’s full attention. A three-track demo surfaced in 2007, with one selection, “Visions,” later appearing as a bonus cut in the video game Rock Band 2. In 2009 the band issued the three-song EP The Collective Calm in Mortal Oblivion. Their first full-length album, Mechanisms of Omniscience, arrived in 2016 on Metal Blade Records and was promoted through extensive touring alongside Suffocation, Napalm Death, the Black Dahlia Murder, and Pig Destroyer. Returning to the studio in 2018, Abnormality worked with producers Peter Rutcho (Revocation, Soul Remnants) and Shane Frisby (Becoming the Archetype, Bury Your Dead) on their second album, Sociopathic Constructs, which appeared in May 2019.
