Biography
Contemporary R&B performer Alycia Bellamy, who also records as Alycia Bella, is recognized for her forthright lyricism and expansive vocal style. Following a string of industry setbacks and guest appearances, she issued her first full album, the self-assured Muse, in 2021; the project includes contributions from fellow Bay Area native E-40, Vince Staples, and stylistic counterpart Summer Walker.
Her immersion in music and the wider entertainment field dates to childhood. Raised in the Bay Area, she began laying down tracks during the 2000s and gained national visibility late in the decade through her role on the reality series Daddy's Girls alongside Vanessa and Angela Simmons. She later took an acting part in the 2012 feature Christmas in Compton, whose soundtrack included a track by the vocal trio Suga Stuff, which counted Bellamy, Fefe Dobson, and Kristinia DeBarge among its members. Around the same period she earned a co-writing credit on LL Cool J’s “Not Leaving You Tonight.” Although she forged ties with Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, and Frank Ocean, a succession of unfulfilled label agreements repeatedly stalled her progress. In 2020 she secured a distribution arrangement with Universal and released a set of moody yet emotionally direct ballads, most produced in tandem with Jacob Gamboa, a frequent collaborator of Summer Walker. Those four songs formed the core of Muse, which appeared the following year.
