Growing up in Oakville, a Toronto suburb, under parents of Guyanese, Canadian, and Indian heritage, Anjulie anchored herself in pop while absorbing the multicultural sounds her older siblings preferred. At age 17 she secured an internship at Toronto’s Metalworks recording studio, where she encountered Jon Levine, keyboardist for the Philosopher Kings. The two formed a songwriting team that supplied material for teen pop singer Emma Roberts’ debut album as well as the Philosopher Kings’ 2005 release Castles. Three years afterward, Kreesha Turner scored a Canadian Top 10 hit with the pair’s composition “Don’t Call Me Baby.”

Anjulie issued her own 2008 single “Boom,” which reached the summit of Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Her self-titled debut arrived on Hear Music the following year, yielding additional club Top 10 entries with “Love Songs” and “Rain” yet falling just short of the Billboard 200’s Top 100. In 2011 “Brand New Bitch” became her strongest Canadian showing to date, peaking at number 16 on the pop chart and earning platinum certification. That same year’s “Stand Behind the Music” registered a modest domestic hit and received a cover from Cher Lloyd on the 2012 album Sticks + Stones.

Anjulie released the 2012 singles “Headphones” and “You and I,” the latter climbing to number 25 on the Canadian pop chart and capturing a Juno Award for Best Dance Recording of the Year. During this period she co-wrote Nicki Minaj’s single “The Boys” and contributed album tracks for Icona Pop and Kelly Clarkson. Her next solo outing, “Falling in Love Again,” surfaced in 2015 after a three-year gap. In 2016 she lent vocals to Cash Cash’s “Arrows in the Dark” from Blood, Sweat & 3 Years and put out “Dragonflies” together with “Golden Handcuffs,” the latter featuring Rmdy.

The year 2017 brought solo singles “Emotional,” “Dream Again,” and “Badhdad,” plus joint efforts with KOWL and Vinai. Another wave of solo material followed in 2018, including “Dancing with Girls” and “Lose Me,” alongside notable guest spots, most prominently on Elephante’s hit “The In Between.”
