Biography
Asia Bryant, who records solo material under the alias Asiahn, crafts contemporary R&B centered on seduction and heartache through smooth, ethereal production. Emerging in the early 2010s via assorted songwriting and background vocal assignments, she established herself as a composer through Jennifer Lopez’s Top 20 hit “Booty” (2014) and an appearance on Dr. Dre’s Compton (2015). Her initial headlining efforts arrived with the Cardiak-produced Love Train (2017) and Love Train 2 (2019). She paused that sequence for the 2021 release The Interlude before issuing further singles, including the 2023 track “Do Bad.”
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Bryant relocated with her family to Charlotte, North Carolina before turning one. Music served as an outlet while she processed her parents’ divorce and her brother’s death. She connected with producer Craig King—whose credits include Quincy Jones, Aaliyah, and Ludacris—and, alongside Ludacris associate James Bennett, received artistic development that led to opening slots for Ludacris and Kanye West plus background vocal work on Quincy Jones’ Q: Soul Bossa Nostra and Killer Mike’s PL3DGE. Co-composing momentum built in 2013 and 2014 with Miley Cyrus’ “Hands in the Air” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Booty,” the latter reaching number 18 on the pop chart. In 2015 she contributed to Ludacris’ Ludaversal, Dr. Dre’s number two-charting Compton, and the Game’s Documentary 2.5.
After additional featured appearances and writing placements—most prominently a collaboration with Ne-Yo on the Empire soundtrack song “Shine on Me”—Bryant turned her focus to her own recordings. She debuted as Asiahn in 2017 with Love Train, an EP of impassioned R&B ballads and slow jams helmed by Cardiak (Dr. Dre, Tank, PartyNextDoor). The pair extended their partnership on the expanded follow-up Love Train 2, which surfaced in 2019; both projects appeared independently. Early 2021 brought The Interlude, an EP issued via SinceThe80s/Motown that included guest spots from Grandmaster Vic and Jordan Hawkins. Bryant later reimagined the project as The Interlude (Orchestral Performances) and released the standalone singles “OMW,” “Fall Back,” and “We Can.”
She made her acting debut voicing ten-year-old aspiring rapper Karma Grant in the computer-animated musical comedy series Karma’s World, created by Ludacris, who portrays Karma’s father. Both artists supplied music to the soundtrack released in late 2021. Asiahn also recorded “What She Wants” with the Femme It Forward collective; the track appeared on the 2022 deluxe edition of their compilation Big Femme Energy, Vol. 1. She followed with the acoustic guitar-driven “When It Comes to You” and the 2023 single “Do Bad.”
