Biography
From her earliest days in Kingston, Jamaica, the performer carved out a distinctive lane by blending dancehall rhythms with pop sensibilities. Her 2012 debut album, “The One,” arrived via Atlantic Records and showcased her songwriting alongside production from major figures in both genres.
The project yielded the chart-topping single “Cheerleader,” which reached number one in multiple territories and earned multi-platinum status across Europe and North America. A remix featuring Miami rapper Pitbull further extended its reach, while another version paired her with dancehall queen Lady Saw.
Critics noted how certain tracks recalled the work of Jean-Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder through their emphasis on synth textures and spacious arrangements. Jamaican vocal coach Georgia Guerra contributed to refining her delivery during recording sessions for the follow-up effort.
That second album, released in 2017, debuted inside the Billboard 200 top ten and produced the Grammy-nominated hit “Wanna Know.” Subsequent singles such as “Love Somebody” maintained her presence on international radio formats.
Throughout her career she has maintained close ties to her Jamaican roots while collaborating with artists ranging from Major Lazer to Sting, all under the umbrella of her own label imprint, Ovyde.
