Biography
Detroit rapper BandGang Lonnie Bands exemplifies the pinnacle of street rap through potent narrative lyrics and ceaseless rhythmic delivery. He emerged as one of the most promising figures among the original six-man BandGang crew, attaining broader visibility through standalone releases highlighted by the 2021 mixtape Hard 2 Kill and later efforts such as 2023's Bam Bam.
BandGang Lonnie Bands first took up rapping at age 13 within the BandGang collective. Over the course of the 2010s the crew built a stronger regional presence via partnerships with acts including SOB X RBE and fellow Detroiter Tee Grizzley. His solo career opened with the 2016 EP Talk That Shit, which he promptly followed with projects like 2017's Antisocial before asserting his status as Detroit's ruler on the 2019 album KOD.
After enduring multiple personal tragedies that claimed friends and family members, Lonnie Bands briefly stepped back from music, only to rediscover his drive with the 2021 mixtape Hard 2 Kill. He resumed a consistent pace of solo work, collaborations, and guest appearances, issuing an expanded edition of Hard 2 Kill in 2022 and, in 2023, both the mixtape Bam Bam and the joint project We Brought Detroit to LA with Cypress Moreno.
