Detroit rapper Marcellus Register, better known as Babyface Ray, built his reputation through steady productivity, loyalty to his local scene, and everyday storytelling in his rhymes. Following a string of mixtapes, he gained wider notice in 2021 when the EP Unfuckwitable appeared on the Billboard charts, carrying guest spots from Kash Doll, Moneybagg Yo, and EST Gee. That same year he also put out an expanded edition of the project and the standalone tracks “A Million Cash Race,” “What the Business Is,” and “It Ain’t My Fault,” the last of which featured Big Sean and Hit-Boy. Two albums, Face and MOB, arrived in 2022 and both reached the upper half of the Billboard 200, as did the 2023 full-length Summer’s Mine. His next studio album, The Kid That Did, surfaced in 2024.

Right after finishing high school he linked with Peezy in Team Eastside, setting off an almost nonstop run of releases that began in 2014. His profile rose sharply with the 2015 mixtape MIA Season, and the projects that followed—most notably 2017’s Ghetto Wave and 2019’s MIA Season 2—solidified his standing as a fixture in Detroit rap. As the city’s scene drew broader interest, Ray’s own audience grew beyond local boundaries, a shift underscored by Unfuckwitable’s entry on the Billboard 200. The twenty-track album Face, issued in 2022 and featuring Pusha T, 42 Dugg, and G Herbo, landed at number 31 on that chart; an eight-song deluxe edition came next, along with the French Montana collaboration “Drive By” and the tracks “Anotha One” and “Goofies,” the latter carrying a verse from Digga D. MOB, his second LP of the year, dropped in December and peaked at number 54. Ahead of Summer’s Mine, which arrived in July 2023, he released singles such as “Ron Artest” with 42 Dugg and “Donda Bag.” In March 2024 he returned with the solo cut “Green Carpet,” then followed it with “Money on My Mind,” “Understand,” and “Shy Kid.” September brought The Kid That Did, an album that included appearances from BossMan Dlow, Fabolous, and Doughboy Clay.
