Rio Da Yung Og

Michigan rapper Rio Da Yung OG favors blunt, hard-hitting verses over melodic hooks or conventional pop arrangements. Rooted in aggressive, street-focused delivery, the Flint native works at an unusually rapid pace, routinely issuing multiple projects within a single calendar year. Notable entries in that run include the 2020 album City on My Back and the 2024 set Rio Circa 2020; after completing a prison term he marked his freedom with the January 2025 release Rio Free.

The artist began recording in 2017. His early output already reflected a tireless schedule, producing a steady stream of mixtapes and one-off tracks such as the 2019 collaboration Dum and Dumber Too with RMC Mike and the 2021 joint effort Murder Mitten Babies alongside Baby Zeek. City on My Back, his debut studio album, arrived in 2020 and featured guest appearances by Icewear Vezzo and Babyface Ray. Even after an early-2021 incarceration, he kept issuing material, contributing to the collective project Back from Michigan and issuing the solo short-form tape Fiend Lives Matter. Most of his 2022 activity consisted of individual tracks, among them the Louie Ray-assisted “Cold Hearted” and the solo cut “Speak the Truth.” The following year brought the EPs The F Tape and Ed, Edd and Eddy, the latter recorded with GrindHard E and RMC Mike. Rio Circa 2020 surfaced in 2024. Rio Da Yung OG exited prison on December 11, 2024, and Rio Free followed the next month, accompanied by the single “Something Happen.”
