Jhony Nuñez assembled Calle Ciega during the platinum era of North American acts such as Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, shaping the ensemble as a Latin counterpart to those boy bands. Modeling his efforts after manager Lou Pearlman, he held demanding casting calls and auditions until five finalists emerged under the name Calle Ciega, or Dead End in English. Launched in 1995, the group refined its sound while appearing throughout Latin America and especially in Caracas, Venezuela. After two original members departed for solo careers, the remaining lineup carried forward. The 1998 debut album Caliente supported tours that built a larger following and packed venues. The band returned to the studio for the 1999 follow-up No Pares de Sudar (Don't Stop Sweating). Every participant helped shape the material and arrived with prior work in music, dance, or modeling. The first two releases both attained gold and platinum status in Venezuela. Standout tracks from that period included “Solo Te Quiero Amar” and “El Marciano.” A third album arrived in 2002. Calle Ciega has also opened shows for acts including Servando y Florentino.
