Biography
Hailing from Washington, D.C., the Christian duo Capital Kings specializes in dynamic pop built on electronic foundations and dance rhythms. In the first half of the 2010s, DJ-producer-rapper Cole Walowac and producer-singer Jon White achieved breakthrough success on the Gotee label with two full-length releases, while propelling dancefloor-oriented tracks such as "Fireblazin" and "Into Your Arms" to the summit of the Christian singles chart. Following the arrival of vocalist Dylan Housewright in place of White, the act scored another success via the 2016 release "I Can't Quit" before calling it quits in 2018. Walowac and White revived Capital Kings in 2023, issuing the single "Higher" that included featured contributions from Evvie McKinney and Jesse Francis.
The pair, who have known each other since childhood, first connected in a church nursery and began making music together as youngsters. Recognition arrived in 2012 through remixes they crafted for fellow Christian acts including tobyMac (on "ShowStopper" and "Me Without You"), Britt Nicole ("Amazing Life"), Mandisa ("Good Morning"), and Group 1 Crew ("His Kind of Love"). Before the year closed they issued the EP I Feel So Alive and supplied two tracks to the Gotee holiday collection 'Tis the Season to Be Gotee Too. Their self-titled debut LP arrived the following January and debuted at number five on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart.
Capital Kings resurfaced in 2015 with the follow-up album II, which included guest spots from singer Chris Tomlin plus rappers KB and tobyMac. Like its predecessor, the set performed strongly, climbing to number 12 on the Billboard Christian Albums tally while reaching number three on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
White exited in 2016 and Housewright assumed vocal duties. The new lineup's first recording was the standalone single "I Can't Quit," which also featured rapper Reconcile. Further 2017 releases such as "Love Is on Our Side" and "Don't Wanna Wake Up" followed, yet this configuration of the group failed to sustain momentum and dissolved in April 2018. After his short stint, Housewright turned attention to family matters, while Walowac secured a production agreement with Warner Chappell and operated for several years under the alias Saint X.
The original members Walowac and White reconvened Capital Kings in 2023, marking their first joint output in seven years with the pulsating club cut "Higher" that featured Evvie McKinney and Jesse Francis.
