Biography
Catherine Kelleher, the stylish vocalist from Sydney, Australia, performs electro-pop material under the Catcall alias after first rising to notice as frontwoman for the indie rock trio Kiosk. Once her time with Kiosk wrapped—highlighted by an opening slot on tour with the Gossip—she launched solo work as Catcall in 2007. Working primarily alongside producer Crumbs, otherwise known as drummer Max Kohane from Agents of Abhorrence, she cut multiple demos that gained early online traction, then issued her proper debut in 2008 via the five-track EP Anniversary on the independent label Instant Touch Recordings. Among its tracks stands “August,” the poignant number she composed to mark the anniversary of her father’s passing. To promote the release she embarked on international dates accompanied by DJ Sleater Brockman and shot a video for “August.” With frequent nods to M.I.A. and Santogold, Catcall swiftly earned blogosphere favor.
