Biography
Kristy Lee Peters operates under the alias KLP as a Sydney-based vocalist, composer, producer, turntablist, and broadcaster whose work fuses pop, house, and drum'n'bass. Solo output began in 2013 alongside her high-profile stint fronting Triple J’s House Party, while joint projects have encompassed Sharam Jey, Skrillex, and Slumberjack; her debut long-player Giver arrived in 2019. ARIA platinum certification was granted to the buoyant 2020 single “Energy,” one of multiple pairings with Stace Cadet, who joined her again for the charting 2021 release “People Happy.” KLP remains a busy stage and studio presence, fueling dance floors with tracks such as the 2023 Tommy Trash collaboration “Big Emotion.”
Raised amid recording gear because her father ran a studio, Peters performed in several teenage groups before supplying guest vocals for assorted producers. Self-produced material surfaced in 2013, spanning sultry ballads to luminous, mid-tempo dance-pop; the Revolution EP dropped that April and was swiftly followed by a house-remix companion. Additional work came with What So Not, Pnau, and DCUP, drawing notice from selectors including Diplo. After claiming Triple J’s Uncovered competition, she took over the weekly House Party mix show, blending dance, pop, hip-hop, indie, and occasional yacht-rock classics while helming several associated compilation releases.
The 2014 singles “Decide” and “Medicine” preceded further features for Slumberjack, Zimmer, and Gold Fields. Festival dates soon stretched across SXSW, Splendour in the Grass, and Field Day. October 2015 brought the drum’n’bass-leaning cut “Recover,” after which she focused on a second EP. The buoyant “Air” and its 2016 remixes by Hydraulix and Stace Cadet preceded Ember later that year; 2017 yielded the brightly colored singles “Changes” and “Melt,” plus a Boilermakers cameo on “Warning Signs” and a modernized take on the Easybeats’ 1968 track “Good Times.” Milwaukee Banks appeared on the 2018 release “Carried Away,” Sharam Jey partnered on “Lost,” and KLP supplied the second disc for Ministry of Sound’s Sessions Rebirth triple-CD set while guesting on albums by Snails and What So Not—the latter via the Skrillex-assisted “Goh.”
Giver, her first full-length, emerged in 2019 with contributions from Kilian & Jo and Dena Amy; Benson’s “Ride Tonight” featured her that same year. The Stace Cadet collaboration “Energy” topped the Australian club chart in 2020, earning an ARIA Award nomination for Best Dance Release. In 2021 the duo covered Sia’s “Breathe Me” for Triple J and issued the further club success “People Happy,” which also received an ARIA nod. KLP then teamed with drag artist LaLa Ri on “Eat the Runway,” followed by the solo 2022 cuts “Busy Dancing” and “Can’t Handle,” the SH Gemini pairing “Feel the Same,” and the 2023 Tommy Trash track “Big Emotion.”
