Biography
Mexican boy band CD9 originated in 2011 when friends Jos Canela and Alonso Villalpando assembled the act. Freddy Leyva, Alan Navarro, and William Valdés soon rounded out the membership. The group issued its independently released dance-pop single "The Party" during summer 2013, generating online social-media interest that attracted Sony Music. Following a label deal and the substitution of Bryan Mouque for Valdés, the five-piece outfit delivered its self-titled debut album in fall 2014, which ascended to number one in Mexico and registered on Spanish charts.
After the 2015 release of Love & Live Edition—containing reworked versions of tracks from the first album—and a sold-out concert at Mexico City Arena, the band returned with Evolution in 2016, another domestic chart-topper. Several months afterward, an expanded iteration titled Revolution appeared, incorporating English-language renditions and live recordings. That same year, CD9 joined Korean girl group Crayon Pop on the single "Get Dumb" and appeared on Spanish girl group Sweet California's "Vuelves," which entered the Spanish charts. Sony issued the five-track .5 EP the next year.
